Introduction to Islam
Islam is a monotheistic religion teaching that there is only one God, Allah and that Mohammad is a messenger of God. The teachings of Islam say that God is merciful, all-powerful, and unique, and has guided mankind through prophets, revealed scriptures and natural signs. The primary scripture of Islam is the Quran, believed to be the exact words of God, and the teachings and normative examples which is called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith of Muhammad.
The religion of Islam has got similarities to Christianity.
Islam also believes in the concept of final judgment with the righteous rewarded in paradise and unrighteous punished in hell.
About the five pillars of Islam
The religious concepts and practices of Islam, include the five pillars of Islam, which are obligatory acts of worship. The five pillars of Islam also known as arkān al-Islām are some basic acts in Islam, which are considered mandatory by believers, and are the foundation of Muslim life. They are as follows:
- Shahadah (Profession of Faith)
- Salat (Prayer)
- Zakat (Almsgiving)
- Sawm (Fasting)
- Hajj (Pilgrimage)
