IMAM DR. ZAFAR MALIK 

Dr. Zafar Malik was born in the great SIR “Allama Iqbal’s” (Poet - Philosopher) city of SIALKOT, Pakistan on 17th May 1943. He received his primary and secondary education at Islamia Primary & Islamia High Schools, Sialkot. He achieved good grades during his secondary school examination in 1958. He attended the old British era “Murray College”, Sialkot for the next two years for his A level ( i.e. F.Sc) and in April 1960, he achieved a meritorious award from the Punjab University, Lahore awarding him Punjab University’s 5 years’ Merit Scholarship which continued during his five years’ medical education at Nishtar Medical College, Multan, Pakistan. He successfully passed his final professional M.B.B.S degree examination in 1965, thus becoming a full medical doctor at the age of 22.

After he moved to the UK, he worked as a hospital doctor for five and a half years and from 1972 onwards, he worked as a general practitioner Principal, in Walthamstow, London E.17. He founded Pakistan Welfare Society (i.e. P.W.S) in 1981 following several unsolved racial attacks on Asians, mainly Pakistani and Muslim homes in Waltham Forest and neighbouring boroughs. He formed a political party (i.e. D.C.P) to represent the ethnic minorities in the UK. During 1986, Local Authority Councillor Elections in London, his party fielded 29 councillor Candidates in Waltham Forest Borough (i.e. in the districts of Walthamstow, Leyton, Leytonstone and Chingford). In 1987 General Elections in the UK (House of Commons Elections) he contested the Parliamentary Seat of Walthamstow (first time for a Muslim and Asian candidate in Walthamstow).

He studied the Arabic language for two years during his A levels. Since then, he has learned Quranic Arabic and Tafseer ul Quran (Quranic explanatory commentary). He has studied “Ilm ul Hadith” (knowledge of Prophet’s traditions) and “Fiqh” (Islamic Jurisprudence) in depth and has delivered several talks and speeches on various Islamic subjects / issues including delivering Juma Khutba (Friday prayer sermons) and Eid Khutba (Eid prayer sermons). He is the founder trustee of South Woodford Mosque (Qurani Markaz Trust ) as well as chief executive of“Idaratun-Nashre Wattablighil Islamiyya” (Islamic Publishing and Propagation Institute). He is also managing director of “Makkah Walmadinah Nikah Service” and is permenant imam at East London Mosque, located on Malford Grove, South Woodford, London E18 2DX, UK. East London Nikah Services, part of Makkah Walmadinah Nikah Services Limited provides Nikah and Divorce which regularly provides Nikah, khullah services for all Muslims living in Greater London and all parts of the United Kingdom.
